If you live in Spain and go online there, or establish an Internet connection while travelling there, you have access to all the usual web options. But what about when you live or travel outside of Spain and want to access TV streaming or websites that are only available within Spain? For example, showing football events is restricted by geo-blocking for broadcasting reasons unless you have a Spanish IP address.
A VPN can be used to bypass this block. In this article, we will show you how easy it is.

Why get a Spanish IP address?
Using a VPN service to obtain an IP address can give you access to certain websites. This is especially prevalent in countries like China or Turkey, where a lot of web content is blocked due to government censorship. However, a VPN service is also useful to Spaniards, allowing them to fake an IP address from any country.
If you are a Spaniard on vacation or on the job in another country, not having a Spanish IP address may make streaming Real Madrid or FC Barcelona matches difficult. In this case, you can connect your personal device (computer, tablet, etc.) to a VPN service, obtain a Spanish IP address, and get a little taste of home via Internet.
Use Spanish streaming services while overseas
Spanish content on Netflix and other streaming services is basically accessible throughout the EU outside of Spain since 2018, in accordance with an EU regulation, but providers do make use of their right to block individual users who permanently access content intended for Spain with non-Spanish IP addresses.
However, viewers outside the country are still often denied access to popular TV channels such as Televisió de Catalunya, Telecino and RTVE. There is, however, a legal workaround: you can easily set up a VPN to Spain with which you simulate a Spanish IP address, thus allowing you to access Spanish web and streaming services.
Other VPN benefits: anonymity and data protection
There are even more reasons to use a VPN with a Spanish IP address. Those who use this service browse anonymously and securely online through an encrypted tunnel, and can access websites that are blocked for non-Spaniards. Of course, this doesn’t only apply to Spain—anyone who wants to stream US shows for example, can do so with a US IP address, which can also be easily spoofed with a VPN.
If you would like to stream Spanish TV—whether as a native abroad or as a foreigner travelling—or access certain Spanish websites, a VPN is the way to go. This can generate a Spanish IP address in seconds.
How can a VPN simulate a Spanish IP address?
You can get a Spanish IP address with Shellfire VPN in one of two ways. Either via our Shellfire VPN software for Windows, Mac OS, iOS and Android, or via our very handy Shellfire Box, a kind of plug-and-play VPN-router.
Shellfire VPN Software
To use our VPN software, first download it for your chosen operating system:
Then, simply follow the on-screen instructions and create an account with Shellfire, if you don’t already have one.
If you want to use a Spanish IP address for several devices at the same time in the most convenient way, then our Shellfire Box is the optimal solution for you. It also offers you the advantage of simulating IP addresses on devices that don’t normally support VPN, such as the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S or any other device that connects to the Internet via WiFi.
In the following video, we show you how easy the Shellfire Box works in practice:
Is it legal to use a VPN to spoof a Spanish IP address?
The following paragraph does not constitute legal advise.
In most countries it is not illegal to set up a VPN tunnel to Spain. However, some streaming service providers explicitly exclude the use of their services from abroad in their terms and conditions. It is therefore theoretically possible that your account or IP address could be blocked. However, we are as yet not aware of any actual cases where this has actually happened.
Does Shellfire only simulate Spanish IP addresses?
Of course not! With Shellfire, you can simulate IP addresses from over 30 countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the US.
The current list of countries and IP addresses supported by Shellfire can be found here.
As you can see, there are many reasons to use a VPN service. With the Shellfire Box or the Shellfire App, you are well-equipped whether you’re a Spaniard travelling abroad or a resident of a foreign country who needs a Spanish IP address to stream Spanish TV or to access websites as if you were in Spain.
